'Lion embracing chicken'

Kuwait City June 10. The U.S. Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, said today that any reconciliatory moves by Iraq with its Gulf War foe Kuwait would be like ``the lion inviting the chicken'' to embrace.

Asked whether Kuwait ought to build on a landmark document signed with Iraq during the Arab summit last March in Beirut, Mr. Rumsfeld said: ``Well, the truth is that that is for Kuwait to make a judgement about. If I were asked for my advice, it would be like the lion inviting the chicken into the embrace''.

During the Arab summit, Baghdad and Kuwait signed a security pact saying that Iraq would respect Kuwaiti sovereignty, while officials on both sides pledged to cooperate on outstanding issues.
