Allow credit cards

Sir, — According to the latest time table issued by the Southern Railway, passengers can use credit cards for booking tickets at major computerised reservation centres such as Chennai Moor Market complex, Bangalore city, Madurai, Tiruchi, Coimbatore and Trivandrum.

But, in practice, the Railway staff seemed to discourage the use of credit cards by putting restrictions on several cards. Recently, I approached the reservation centre at Trivandrum Central to book tickets to Calicut but the booking clerk refused to accept any credit card other than Cancard.

Since operations of all major credit card companies are computerised, why put restrictions and ceiling on amounts for cards issued by different banks.

The practice of charging Rs. 30 for each ticket booked under a credit card also acts as a deterrent for its widespread use.
