He was speaking at a function to welcome the ``Ahimsa Yatra'' undertaken by the Jain Acharya, Mahapragna, through various States to spread the message of non-violence and other moral values. Accompanied by about 150 Jain sadhus, the Yatra that started from Churu in Sujangadh, Rajasthan, on December 5, was given a warm welcome when it entered Ahmedabad this morning after covering the north Gujarat regions. After covering south and central Gujarat, the Yatra will enter Madhya Pradesh next month. The Chief Minister did not give details of the proposed university, but said students and research scholars from all over the world would be welcome to study all aspects of non-violence, its philosophy, its practice and history. The State Cabinet at its meeting yesterday discussed the proposal and formed a Cabinet sub-committee to work out the details. The proposal, however, was not linked with the recent violence as the State Government's decision to set up such a university was first announced by Mr. Modi at a function in Somnath in the presence of the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, in October, last year.
