King Gyanendra visits Kalighat temple

KOLKATA JUNE 28. Nepal King Gyanendra and Queen Komal Rajya Laxmi visited the Kalighat temple in south Kolkata today amid tight security.

The King stayed in the temple for 15 minutes and offered prayers for peace and prosperity of India and Nepal.

Ajay Banerjee, member, executive council of priests, told presspersons that the King performed `puja' with sweets, coconut and other offerings. A goat was offered to the goddess after he left the temple.

However, there was no protest against the sacrifice, Mr. Banerjee said. King Gyanendra is here on the second leg of his six-day visit to the country. — UNI
