In a statement here, a spokesperson of the PPP said the party stood by its charge that its members were approached by officials, including a colonel and a major of the ISI, and asked to change their political affiliation. It also alleged that they were asked to provide their bio-data and photographs. The spokesman said that either individual officers of the ISI were contacting politicians at the behest of the ISI or at their personal level or at the behest of other individuals. The statement said that since the ISI is disassociating itself from the move, the PPP demanded that the ISI conduct its `internal inquiry' into the matter in both Sind and Punjab. "The party is not demanding a public inquiry at this stage to save the ISI from embarrassment but an `internal inquiry' is in the interest of both the institution and the country, particularly after the official denial.'' In another development, the PPP has decided to observe July 5 as a Black Day to mark the dismissal of the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Government in 1977 by the then military dictator, Zia-ul-Haq.
