Iftikhar Geelani's remand extended further

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI JULY 2 . A Delhi court today further extended the judicial remand of Iftikhar Geelani, son-in-law of the All-Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, till July 8 in a case under the Official Secrets Act.

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM), Sangeeta Dhingra Sehagal, also allowed the Delhi police's request for further interrogation of the accused.

The CMM also issued a notice to the Joint Director (Investigation) of the Income-Tax Department on an application by the investigating officer of the case urging the court to direct the department to hand over the video compact disc and floppies seized during a joint raid at Mr. Geelani's residence here on June 9.

The officer said the seized material might be of no use for the department but could help the city police in the investigation. Mr. Geelani was arrested on June 9 for allegedly possessing information on the deployment of troops in J&K.
