Doubling of sentence

New Delhi July 5. The Union Cabinet today cleared for introduction a fresh Negotiable Instruments Act (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha providing for doubling of the sentence period for dishonour of cheques to two years and to ensure time-bound disposal of cases.

It also decided to withdraw the bill now in the Lok Sabha in the coming monsoon session, the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Sushma Swaraj, told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.
