Statements on infiltration conflicting: Azad

By Our Staff Reporter

JAMMU JULY 14. The Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief, Ghulam Nabi Azad, today accused the Centre of adopting an unclear policy towards cross-border terrorism.

Talking to The Hindu here after a visit to the site of yesterday's massacre, Mr. Azad said: "The Central Government is coming out with conflicting statements every now and then. I can say it frankly that there is no coordination among the Home Minister, the Defence Minister and the Prime Minister. The Defence Minister says that infiltration has come down but the very next day the Home Minister refutes this statement. The Prime Minister's statements are equally conflicting."

Even the coordination between the State Government and the Centre was missing, he added.

Referring to yesterday's incident, Mr. Azad said: "I have been warning the Central Government again and again in Parliament that terrorism is at the doors of Jammu region. But nobody wants to understand the situation prevailing in the region."

There will be no follow-up and no precautionary measure taken by the State as well as the Centre, he said.
