The system failed the tests last year, with two missiles out of ten missing the targets. Under designer specifications the super-precision laser-guided missile must not miss more than one target in ten firings over distance of up to 5 km. T-90S is the world's only Main Battle Tank whose gun can fire both artillery shells and missiles to destroy reinforced ground and low-flying air targets. Under a $750-million contract for the supply of 310 T-90S MBTs Russia delivered 80 tanks earlier this year and will ship another 44 tanks in August. The rest will be assembled in India over the next two years. It was a minor problem that required some adjustment in the missile guidance systemand it has now been solved, said David Lipsman, chief engineer at the Degtyaryov ordnance plant, which manufactures the REFLEX missiles. Mr. Lipsman told The Hindu that an Indian inspection team would be invited to Russia next month for new delivery tests of the REFLEX missile. If the tests are successful all the T-90S tanks supplied to India will be equipped with missiles by the end of the year.
