`850-cr. NABARD aid sought'

VIZIANAGARAM JULY 19. The State Government has sought Rs.850 crore allocation from NABARD for various works in the State, the General Manager of NABARD, N. Sambasiva Rao, told reporters here on Friday.

Giving the break-up of the allocated amount, Mr. Rao, who was here to inspect the ongoing works in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts, said that Rs.100 crores was allocated for Panchayatraj roads, Rs.250 crores for R&B department, Rs.150 crores for Irrigation, Rs.100 crores for Rural Water Supply, Rs.151 crores for Neeru-meeru, Rs.50 crores for Forest Department and the balance was left out unallocated.

He said apart from Rs.151 crores already sanctioned for Neeru-meeru programme, Rs.26 crores had been sanctioned at the 58th Sanctioning Committee meeting in New Delhi on July 13.

Out of the Rs.26 crores, the Government allocation Rs.19 crores for R.W.S. and Rs.7 crores for six roads and two bridges in the State, he added.

The allocated amount for various departments would be released when the list of balance projects which are at appraisal stage were available.

Stating that the quality of work on Bhogapuram Rural Water Supply was "good', Mr. Sambasiva Rao said the project work was delayed due to bottlenecks. The NABARD Consultant, P.V. Kutumba Rao was also present.
