Addressing a workshop on `Cluster development under handmade paper industry', jointly organised by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission and the Khadi and Village Industries Development Trust here on Friday, the Collector said the 64 mandals in the district were divided into nine groups for the purpose. The Ramananda Theerta Institute and some other non-Government organisations had come forward to conduct the exercise. Stating that there was immense scope to develop paper industry in the district, Mr. Madhusudhan Rao said that handmade paper was durable and could be put to use in many ways. Lack of commitment and proper marketing facilities were some of the reasons for improper functioning of small scale and cottage industries, he said and advised beneficiaries to study the practical problems before starting any industry. The Municipal Chairman, S. Prakash, urged authorities of the Khadi and Village Industry to give wide publicity to khadi products. The KVIC Director, Hyderabad, K. Mohan Rao, said that the Centre had allocated Rs.10.79 crores as margin money to the State for the current year for development of khadi village industries. Mahabunagar district was allocated Rs.41 lakhs as margin money and there was good scope to develop handmade paper industry.
