Jehadis creating world unrest: Singhal

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR JULY 19. International president of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Ashok Singhal, on Friday alleged that Islamic `jehadi' groups were responsible for unrest all over the world. He also warned the `jehadis' against causing problems to the pilgrims of Amarnath yatra in Jammu and Kashmir.

Talking to reporters at Prashanti Nilyam in Puttaparthi here, he said the VHP would make efforts to forge unity in the country, adding that they were planning programmes to create awareness among people. He blamed the political parties for instability in the country and observed that political intervention was not favoured on the Ram Janmabhoomi issue. Stressing the need for unification of Hindus cutting across party lines, he called upon them to fight for construction of the temple at Ayodhya.

The VHP was hopeful of a positive outcome from the mediation of Kanchi Seer, Jayendra Saraswathi, Mr. Singhal said. The P.V. Narasimha Rao Government had failed to handover the land to Ram Janmabhoomi Shilanyas Committee in 1992 and the subsequent change of leadership had also failed to help the matter, he remarked.

Explaining the VHP's plan to protect Hindu dharma, Mr. Singhal said they were planning to utilise the services of 80 lakh `japasadhakas' to inculcate `trisutra' among people till the village-level. The `trisutra' included `Rama japa' every day in every house, `Rama keerthana' once in a week and `Rama yagna' once a month.

On the VHP's ties with the BJP he said though it differed on several issues, it would support the party. He hoped that Satya Saibaba's value-based education would restore peace in the world.

The VHP secretary, Praveen Togadia, said the Congress had lost its identity in Gujarat by appointing an ex-RSS man, Shankar Sinh Vaghela, as the PCC president. He said the Gujarat incidents would have no impact on the BJP's prospects in the coming Assembly elections.
