Sir, The ban on gutka and pan masala by the Maharashtra Government to be effective from August 1 clearly proves that the losses in terms of health and related expenditure on the citizens consuming them excessively outgrow on the revenue earned by the Governments. The ban, already in force in Andhra Pradesh, has to a great extent kept the youth off these harmful products. Though more States are contemplating a ban many are unable to do so and are waiting for the Centre to act. Moreover, pan masala advertisements are widely aired in almost all TV channels. They should also be banned. The onus is on the Centre to ensure that these products are banned in all States. K. Rajeshwar Reddy, Hyderabad
