By Our Staff Correspondent

HASSAN JULY 21. The Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Infrastructure Development, T. John, said today that Christians had been in the forefront of social activities and they should continue them.

Speaking at a function organised to lay the foundation stone for a community hall on the CSI Church premises here, he said CSI churches and mission hospitals had earned praise from various sections of society because of the work being done by them.

Referring to properties owned by CSI hospitals, he said there was no need for them to depend on the Government or any external agency for aid as long as they managed their assets well.

Presiding over the function, the Revenue Minister, H.C. Srikantaiah, said Christians were peace-loving and service-minded people.

He promised help to the community hall.

Laying the foundation stone, the Hassan MP, G. Puttaswamy Gowda, said Christians had left an indelible mark on society by contributing to health, education, and religious activities.

He urged the Deputy Commissioner, L.K. Atheeq, to take steps to resolve a dispute pertaining to the burial land belonging to the community here.

Prabhu Chand, head of the CSI Church, Hassan, urged the Government to provide sites to Christian institutions to start residential schools, industrial training institutes, and hospitals.

Stating that the community hall had been estimated at Rs. 30 lakh, he requested the ministers provide funds.

K.H. Hanume Gowda, Hassan MLA, agreed to release Rs. one lakh from the MLA's constituency development fund.

Mr. Puttaswamy Gowda said that he would consider CSI's request for assistance under the MP's local area development fund.
