The SBAC Director-General, David Marshall, said at a news conference that the study would explore how the commercial aerospace business model was changing following the downturn in the industry after the September 11 terrorist attacks. ``The events of September 11 have already had a profound effect on the air transport sector and placed new challenges on airlines, their customers and their suppliers,'' said Mr. Marshall. ``This specialised research work will explore how, what were once considered fundamental assumptions about the air transport industry, have indeed changed, and to what extent. We want to provide aircraft manufacturers and suppliers with clear facts to help them create products and services that are useful given the changed realities of the future.'' ``It will examine whether the global model remains valid, how it is changing and what the impacts are. The results will offer solid perspective for airlines, aviation manufacturers and their suppliers to plan future business initiatives,'' said Duncan Craig, vice-president for European Aviation and Defence of A.T. Kearney, a management consulting subsidiary firm of global services leader, EDS.
Jet Airways deal
A major Indian interest during the air show was the Mumbai-based private domestic carrier, Jet Airways, becoming the launch customer of Embraer company. Announcing the $ 520-million aircraft purchase deal signed with the Embraer president, Mauricio Botelho, the Jet Airways Chairman, Naresh Goyal, said the airline had placed orders for 10 aircraft and delivery would begin from June 2004 to 2007. Mr. Goyal told The Hindu that Embraer's new generation 78-seater planes would replace the ATR-72 seater fleet.
