COLOMBO JULY 25. The Sri Lankan President, Chandrika Kumaratunga, has expressed her "sincere felicitations and warm good wishes'' to the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

In a message to Dr. Kalam, she said: "you bring to this high office rich experience gained from a long and distinguished career in science and technology, profound knowledge of religious philosophies and cultural heritage of your country as well as a passion for poetry and music.''

The "overwhelming mandate'' received by him, she said, "is a clear reflection of the great confidence and trust placed in you by the people of India''.

On bilateral relations, Ms. Kumaratunga said: "I am confident that the traditional ties of friendship and co-operation between our two peoples and countries will be further strengthened during your tenure as President''.
