29 killed in Kerala boat tragedy

KUMARAKOM JULY 27. 29 persons, including 15 women and a nine-month-old child, were drowned when the boat they were travelling in capsized off the Kumarakom coast in the Vembanad Lake at 6.05 a.m. today.

The boat belonging to the Kerala Water Transport Department was coming from Mohamma in Alappuzha district to Kumarakom in Kottayam district and was carrying more than its capacity as there was a rush of candidates appearing for a Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) test.
