Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, is justified in letting off steam against the Centre for not inviting the Chief Ministers for the swearing-in ceremony of the President. Adding insult to injury is the statement of the Union Home Ministry that the invitations are extended only on request. Home Ministry babus are expecting the lobby culture of New Delhi to spread to other parts of the country. It is highly condemnable that even after enquiry by the Resident Commissioner of Tamil Nadu, the invitation was not extended. The statement that the Central Hall of Parliament can hold only a limited number of invitees is a lame excuse. The Centre should offer an unconditional apology to all the Chief Ministers.
