Letters to the Editor
Sir, Your Editorial, `Upholding core values' (July 27) brings out the crux of the last and maiden speeches of the outgoing and new Presidents. While K.R. Narayanan used the opportunity to remind us of the traditional spirit of Hinduism and the need to uphold it, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam invited us to be part of a ``resurgent India'' sans poverty and unemployment. As a ``missile technocrat'', he shared with us his dreams and vision with respect to the country and the people. As the cornerstone of our nationhood, he said our secularism should bring about unity of minds among the divergent traditions. It is noteworthy that Mr. Narayanan ventured to blame leaders of the older generation for their failure in setting examples and not being role models for the youth.
C.P. Velayudhan Nair,
