Jammu & Kashmir
By Shujaat Bukhari
The Hurriyat leader, Moulvi Abbas Ansari, said that elections held in such a manner could be a step forward in choosing the representatives of people as indicated by the U.S. Secretary of State, Colin Powell. His suggestion for releasing political prisoners, including the three senior Hurriyat leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Yasin Malik and Sheikh Abdul Aziz could help make headway. "When they are out, we will sit together and review our decision,'' he said. He welcomed Gen. Powell's suggestion for international observers and said "he meant to choose real representatives of people''. But India has not responded positively.
