'Osama's eldest son heading Al-Qaeda'

Riyadh July 29. Osama bin Laden's eldest son, Saad, has taken over the command of the Al-Qaeda, according to the Saudi daily, Asharq Al-Awsat.

Saad bin Laden had been in charge of the organisation ``since the U.S. offensive against the Al-Qaeda bases in Afghanistan,'' which began in October, and the Al-Qaeda's pullout from its main hideouts in the country, the paper today quoted ``informed sources'' as saying in a London-datelined dispatch.

This disclosure ``substantiates the theory that Osama was killed or seriously wounded'' in the U.S.-led military campaign, the paper said. — AFP
