Letters to the Editor
Sir, Kashmir is an integral part of our country. It is also a matter of pride that despite all the violence and turmoil, democracy prevails there. Being the largest democracy in the world, we have put in our mite to safeguard the principles of democracy in all States. So we do not need any advice on conducting fair and free elections. The U.S. Secretary of State, Colin Powell's advice on having international observers in Kashmir during the elections there seems unjustified. All citizens should demonstrate solidarity in condemning such interference in our affairs, however well intended it may seem. Political leaders must express a similar opinion, cutting across party lines. Only then will we be sending the right message.
