Letters to the Editor
Sir, It is heartening to see the Government's commitment to the disinvestment process. It should receive full credit for carrying out the exercise in a transparent way. This will make the already profitable ``navaratnas'' much more productive and will breathe a fresh lease of life into the sick PSUs. The listless stock markets may as well get the much-needed impetus. With so much of money filling the coffers, one is not sure as to where the proceeds of disinvestment are being channelled. The transparency that one sees in the disinvestment process is sadly lacking in the utilisation of these funds. The Finance Ministry should come up with a road map on the utilisation of this money. The UNDP Human Development Report 2002 rightly points out, ``Politics is as important to successful development as economics,'' and the onus is now on the Indian politician who is known to be as slippery as an eel.
