Autonomy for Kashmir

Sir, — Malini Parthasarathy has hit the nail on the head in the article ``Winning the battle over Kashmir'' (Aug.5).

The inconvenience caused by Article 370 of the Constitution to the Government is well brought out.

The various moves by the Western powers to corner India are nothing but `internationalisation'' of the Kashmir issue. To that extent, the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, has indeed succeeded in his ``mission impossible''. To counter this, as suggested, the Government must announce full autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir as a special case to give credibility to free and fair elections. This alone will ensure that even the jehadis participate in the elections.

V. Sundaresan,

Khairatabad, A.P.
