U.S., U.K. condemn killings

Washington Aug. 6. The United States has said the attack on Amarnath pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir was aimed at thwarting efforts for a political solution of the Kashmir problem and Britain said it called for sustained action against terrorism.

The State Department officials said ``such attacks are clearly aimed at escalating tensions in the region and preventing movement towards a political resolution of the Kashmir conflict.''

``This vicious attack on a group of peaceful pilgrims was carried out with a clear intent to create widespread fear in a civilian population."

In London, a spokesman of Commonwealth and British Foreign Office said the ``horrific'' attack on Amarnath pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir and on a Christian school at Muree in Pakistan called for sustained and effective action against terrorism. — PTI
