The Election Commission took the decision after a briefing on Wednesday by a high-level nine-member team of the Commission, which toured the riot-hit districts last week. The team, in its report submitted this afternoon, is understood to have said that the situation in Gujarat is not conducive for the people of the minority community to vote fearlessly. Since many of them were still in relief camps, it would be difficult for them to vote if the elections were held early. According to sources, the full Commission is visiting Ahmedabad and Vadodara to review the situation prevailing in the State. It is expected to meet senior police and administration officials, besides representatives of political parties and non-governmental organisations. The full Commission is expected to meet on Monday to decide on the poll schedule in Gujarat. UNI
