Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Editorial "Heroes and hooligans" (Aug. 10) has exposed the extremist and perverted mindset of fanatics such as VHP functionaries. The demand for the arrest of Magsaysay award winner, Sandeep Pandey, under POTA is condemnable. For Mr. Pandey, who gave up a secure future for a noble cause, such hostility may not deter him from his humane purpose but verily raises questions about the fundamentalist ideology of people working in such organisations. In a pluralistic country such as ours, leaders of such organisations should rise above their egocentric attitude, partisan politics and learn to act in a more responsible manner. Endeavours of people like Mr. Pandey must be extolled in the interest of the society and citizens. Abhishek Yadav, Dehra Dun, Uttaranchal
