Five held for Taxila attack

By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD Aug. 12. Police in Pakistan today detained at least five persons in connection with the attack on the missionary hospital in Taxila town that left five people dead. Indications from the authorities suggested that the outlawed sectarian outfit, Lashkar-i-Jhangvi could be behind the attack. The arrests were reportedly made on the basis of the identity of the dead militant in the incident. Yesterday police in Rawalpindi were quoted as saying that they suspected the hand of the banned militant outfit, Jaish-e-Mohammad.

Much is at stake for the Musharraf Government in cracking down on the outfits that have struck on Christian/western targets in recent weeks. The decision of some of the western embassies in Pakistan to curtail their diplomatic presence has dealt a big blow to the country's economy.
