Putin hails Indo-Russian strategic ties

By Vladimir Radyuhin

MOSCOW AUG.15. The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, hailed the growing cooperation and strategic partnership between Russia and India in messages of greetings he sent to the President and the Prime Minister on Independence Day.

``Russia and India are building up constructive interaction in bilateral and global affairs and are making a weighty contribution to maintaining and strengthening international stability,'' the Russian leader said in a telegram to the President, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, released by the Kremlin press service on Thursday. "As strategic partners, our two countries can do a lot to make the world more fair and secure.''

Three months ahead of his official visit to India, Mr. Putin predicted a further growth of Indo-Russian ties. ``Relations between Russia and India are marked by stable onward dynamics and growing political interaction and strategic partnership,'' the Russian leader said in a message to the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee.

"In the past few years our countries have established a solid basis for the further growth of bilateral cooperation and joint work to resolve the pressing issues of the modern world.''
