Disturbing trend

Sir, — Reference to Editorial "A disturbing trend" (Aug. 14). Nowadays, Parliamentary proceedings are frequently disrupted which is not healthy. Parliament is a place for discussing issues of national importance.

We elect the MPs to represent us, and our problems, in that forum. The issues may be sensitive and important. But they should not disrupt the proceedings. Who is responsible for the frequent adjournments, the ruling party or the Opposition? As mentioned by you, the Opposition has the right to ask the Government to clarify its stand. It is its duty also. But it should not affect the normal functioning of Parliament.

As rightly pointed out, many important bills are pending and they have to wait for five more months. Our country is already facing a financial crisis and stalling Parliament may aggravate the situation.

M. Venkatesan,

Srivaikuntam, T.N.
