Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, has said that elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be farcical (Aug. 15). Will it be more so than the "referendum" he held recently in his country? A man clinging to power through a rigged referendum has no locus standi to comment about the J & K elections. Unable to control religious and sectarian fundamentalist groups, and unwilling to conduct free and fair elections in his country, Gen. Musharraf is indulging in anti-India rhetoric. He would do well to focus his energy in conducting "free and fair" elections in Pakistan in October, as promised. G. Vivekanandam, Madurai, T.N.
