Naik must go

Sir, — The petrol pump allotment scam shows the casual and callous attitude of the political elite who openly honour the laws of the land more in breach than in observance. People's hopes and expectations that the BJP-led NDA Government, with its rich cultural background, would bring about a transformation have been belied. To say that the allotments under the Congress rule too were made on political basis is not acceptable. Under the circumstances, the only honourable course left for the Petroleum Minister, Ram Naik, is to bow out of office.

K.L. Batra,
New Delhi
