Sir, There can be no two opinions on your remark ``The inclusion of a development package is now de rigueur in Independence Day addresses but the gulf between promise and performance has been woefully large'' (Aug. 16). The Prime Minister's 15 new socio-economic initiatives sound great and, if implemented, will surely lead India to an enviable position. But in our money-crunchy economic situation, these will remain just empty promises.
