Sir, It is amazing that Narendra Modi is organising a `gaurav rath yatra'. If he has any humanism left in him, he should instead lead a `lajja yatra' and retire from public life. Gujarat and India can redeem their pride only by unreservedly acknowledging the shame of communalism.
Manas Chakravarty,
Sir, The BJP Government's plan to take out a `gaurav rath yatra' in the riot-affected districts of Gujarat is not a wise move. In what way are the shameful riots termed a pride for the State? The relief and rehabilitation works are not going on with optimum speed. Tension still exists in some places. The President and the Election Commission have said a lot has to be done for instilling confidence in the people. If the `yatra' is for re-establishing the pride of Gujarati people, the people involved should put their money and energy in relief and rehabilitation work.
Kumar Rahul,
Sir, The Gujarat BJP's decision to revive the controversial `gaurav rath yatra' is a result of the decision of the Election Commission to defer the Gujarat elections. The `yatra' is meant "to highlight the proud performance of the Narendra Modi Government". Instead, the BJP ought to take out a `rath yatra' to express its apology for the riots. The idea apparently is to preserve the vote bank on communal lines. Such `yatras' should be banned as they involve law and order problems. There is an urgent need to bring Gujarat under President's rule.
M. Satyanarayana Rao,
