Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to Suresh Prabhu's resignation from the Union Cabinet despite the Prime Minister's wish to retain him for his good work as Power Minister (Aug. 21). The dictatorial attitude of "big" party bosses prevents the Prime Minister from having a Cabinet of his choice. The supremacy of party leaders must be eliminated by electing a popular personality as Prime Minister cutting across party lines through a secret vote in the Lok Sabha on nominations signed by at least one-third of the members. Such a leader may be free to choose his ministry without any "nominations" invited from alliance partners, but subject to a maximum 10 per cent of the total strength of the Lok Sabha.
Madhu Agrawal,
Sir, Previously, it was the President who used to be a rubber-stamp, but we now have a rubber stamp Prime Minister whose Ministers are ordered out of the Cabinet by someone else and he cannot accept the resignation because somebody is away.
Feeroz Khan,
