Sir, The Madras High Court Advocates Association as well as the Law Association has called for an indefinite boycott of courts protesting the ordinance promulgated by the Tamil Nadu Government, effective from August 8, enhancing court fees. It is not clear how the advocates association has any locus standi to question the enhancement of the fees? It is for the litigant public to question it but they are keeping quiet. After all, only they will have to shell out money. No purpose will be served by prolonging the boycott. In any event, the Supreme Court held in one of its judgments that advocates are officers of the court. Already three writ petitions have been filed challenging the ordinance. All legal points can be vehemently put forth in the writ petitions.
