Envoy presents credentials

By V.S. Sambandan

COLOMBO Sept. 4. Nirupam Sen, who has been appointed the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, on Tuesday presented his credentials to the Sri Lankan President, Chandrika Kumaratunga, at the President's House.

For Mr. Sen, who joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1969, this is his second stint in Sri Lanka, having served here as Deputy High Commissioner between 1987 and 1989. That was a momentous period for bilateral relations, given the Indo-Sri Lanka Accord and subsequent developments. Now, India has adopted a hands-off approach to the island's ethnic conflict.
