JKLF warning to Pak. on LoC

By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD Sept. 4. The Pakistan-based Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has warned the Government of Pakistan of "dire consequences" if it took any step towards making the Line of Control (LoC) the permanent border between India and Pakistan.

It is not clear as to what prompted the Front to issue such a warning.

Possibly it was a reaction to a prominently-displayed news item, strongly denied by the Pakistan Foreign Office, that the President, Pervez Musharraf, would discuss such a proposal with the United States President, George Bush, in New York on September 13.

In a statement issued here, the JKLF chairman, Amanullah Khan, said that although the Foreign Office had contradicted it, the "very serious nature" of the report had shocked and stunned Kashmiri "patriots".

He alleged that some recent steps on the part of the Pakistan Government were tantamount to taking a u-turn on Kashmir issue.
