Mr.Gowda said: "I would like to say with humility that a senior reporter, who covered the Supreme Court, should not have made such a mistake, which has created a problem for the Government.'' He said except The Hindu, no newspaper had reported that Mr.Nariman had made such an offer to the court. Mr. Gowda said that even Mr.Nariman had clarified to the Government that at no point of time had he mentioned about releasing water to Tamil Nadu before the apex court. Our New Delhi Legal Correspondent writes: In fact, after senior counsel for Karnataka, F.S. Nariman, offered in the Supreme Court that the State could spare one tmcft of Cauvery water daily, senior counsel for Tamil Nadu, K.K. Venugopal, reacted and told the court ``My learned friend himself is offering one tmcft, however, Tamil Nadu requires 2 tmcft daily...'' Thereafter, when the court asked the views of Solicitor-General, Harish Salve, he said it was for the court to determine the quantum.
