Letters to the Editor
Sir, Although it was heartening to read about the "Exhibition on wheels" (Aug. 10), which would unfold the 150-year-magic of the Indian Railways, I have my grievance. Last month, I had boarded the Hapa Express from Thiruvananthapuram and was proceeding to Vadodara in the 2-tier AC coach. Within an hour, there were a couple of mice squeaking and running all over the coach. I complained to the coach attendants, to which I got the prompt reply that the coach was infested with cockroaches too and that there was nothing that could be done. One can imagine the plight of passengers to have these rodents as companions for 42 hours within the confines of the AC coach. This is not any stray incident, as there are many people who have been complaining of such unhygienic conditions in railway coaches these days. It is time Indian Railways looked after the basic needs of passengers before publicising its 150 years of service.
