Sinha, Haq to participate in New York meet

By Our Diplomatic Correspondent

FRANKFURT SEPT. 9. The External Affairs Minister, Yashwant Sinha, and the Pakistan's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Inam-ul-Haq, are scheduled to participate in a lunch for South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Foreign Ministers on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly session.

On September 16, Mr. Sinha and Mr. Haq would be part of the SAARC Ministers group which will discuss South Asian matters.

The meeting is of some interest, because it will, perhaps, be the only one in New York where an Indian and Pakistani Minister will be at the same table. As of now, both countries have ruled out any bilateral "sideline meetings'' in New York. According to SAARC sources, a tradition has now been set that Foreign Ministers meet on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly.
