The Jang media group in an item posted on its web site claimed that the suspects belong to the same outlawed organisation as three other men accused in a separate assassination plot, also on trial for the bombing of the U.S. Consulate in Karachi. ``The two plots were planned or two consecutive days in April'', it said, quoting unidentified investigators. It said the five recently arrested men were suspected of smuggling assault rifles and hand grenades to an April 27 ceremony to lay the foundation stone for an expressway outside a naval base in Karachi. It was characterised as `a suicide mission'. The group said the plan went awry when Gen. Musharraf showed up three hours late for the event.
