With the commissioning of the Rs. 324-crore boiler, the NTPC-Talcher got into action for switching on the third 500 MW generation unit. It has already commissioned two 500 MW units at Kaniha. The full complement of 500 MW would be transmitted through the Talcher-Kolar high-voltage direct current line to its terminal near Bangalore for onward wheeling to the power-starved States of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala.
