Letters to the Editor
Sir, Apropos of the article `Stakes in technical education' (Sept. 25) the issue is more of under utilisation of creative, innovative and quality talent of IIT B. Techs who had chosen the public sector in India rather than declining quality. Making matters worse is writing off their initiatives as impracticable. Were it not so there would have been more IIT B. Techs in board level posts at least when they are half way through their career. Some lateral thinking through a survey of the plight of IIT B Techs in the public sector is long overdue because they often end up retiring two, three levels below board-level posts after as many as 35 years of service. How can they be harbingers of progress? They are not even permitted to reposition themselves gracefully. Hariharan.N, Chennai
