Letters to the Editor
Sir, I am always puzzled by the action of the Indian security forces during encounters with the so-called militants. Why is it that they have never been able to capture even a single "terrorist" alive? Surely, it will not be difficult to apprehend the assailants when they are far outnumbered by the security personnel. A terrorist who is captured alive can provide concrete proof of his nationality and the organisation and the country behind him. Be it the attack on the pilgrims in Kashmir, assaults on the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, the Indian Parliament, or the recent incident in a Gujarat temple, the identity of the dead perpetrators and the sponsor group is always "established" on sketchy and flimsy evidence.
