Journalists kidnapped

Imphal Oct. 9. Two journalists were kidnapped by gunmen on NH 39 between Saibon and Sinam villages under Tengnaupal police station limits of Manipur's Chandel district last evening. Police said the journalists were Iboyaima Laithangbam, the Imphal correspondent of The Hindu and Y. Arun of the Shillong-based Eastern Panorama. Police suspect that the abductors belong to one of the underground outfits. The journalists were going to Moreh in a van along with one of their friends. The van was found abandoned. The motive of the abduction has not been established.
