Peace Nobel for Carter

OSLO, Norway, OCT 11. The former U.S. President, Jimmy Carter (78), won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for his peace mediation efforts and promotion of human rights in what the awards committee said was a criticism of current U.S. policy and ``a kick in the leg'' to those adopting the same position.

Mr. Carter said he was ``deeply grateful'' for the honour in a statement posted on the website of the Carter Center, the Atlanta-based think-tank and activist policy centre he and wife, Rosalynn, founded in 1982.
