Cong. support for Patel Foundation

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI OCT. 12. Evidently apprehensive of the current dispensation at the Centre appropriating the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, has extended the party's full support for the setting up of a national foundation in memory of the `Iron Man' of India.

In a letter to the Prime Minister on October 4, Ms. Gandhi pledged support for the initiative. "It is essential that given the stature and contribution of Sardar Patel to the nation, all political parties should be involved in the establishment and management of this foundation. Certainly, the Congress party would like to be consulted in laying down the objectives of this foundation and also in its management.''

Advocating early action for setting up the Sardar Patel Foundation, Ms. Gandhi noted that "at a time, when some disruptive forces are seeking to undermine India's unity and integrity, the life and works of Sardar Patel can provide powerful inspiration for our people to unitedly meet their challenge."
