A first step in this direction is a four-member delegation led by S. Sadagopan, Director, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore representing India at the ongoing Systems IT Fair in Munich (October 14-18). The Systems Fair is purportedly the largest IT fair after Cebit. The Indian delegation comprising Balaji Parthasarthy, Professor, IIIT-B, Deependra Moitra, GM, Bell Laboratories and Tridib Roy Chowdhury, CEO, STEX Software would expound on the evolution of the Indian software industry, policies, trends and achievements of the Indian IT industry. Mr. Sadagopan would also explain the transformation undergone by Indian academic training in response to the developments in the IT industry. Subsequently the delegation would visit the Technical University, Munich to further joint research, development of new products, exchange of academia and international student exchange programme between the Tech University and the IIIT-B. Revealing this to The Hindu, John Kottayil, Director (India), Goto Bavaria said, ``Over the last one year, there has been greater awareness about the Indian IT industry in Germany. This focus is being extended to collaboration and academic interchanges in other areas like biotechnology and life sciences.'' Universities such as Rosenheim, University of Erlangen, University of Weihstephan and University of Augufburg have evinced keen interest to attract both Indian students and Indian academia (read Indian Institute of Science). Interestingly educational expenses in Germany are borne by the Government and the Universities, while the student has to incur boarding and living expenses, which can be accommodated through scholarships. In order to create more awareness DAAD (Indo-German Exchange Programme) will conduct `Education in Germany' roadshows in Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore during November this year.
