Naxals gun down TDP leader

GUNTUR OCT. 15. Naxalites belonging to the Chandravanka dalam of the People's War (PW) shot dead a Telugu Desam Party leader, Yaganti Venkateswarlu (57), former sarpanch of Adigoppula village in Durgi mandal, in the wee hours of Tuesday. They also thrashed his follower, Challa Venkateswarlu (53).

According to the police, about 30 naxalites, including four women, clad in olive-green uniform, went to Adigoppula around 1.30 am.

At least a dozen of them were carrying firearms. They divided into two groups and one group went straight to the residence of Yaganti Venkateswarlu and dragged him out of the house and shot him dead. They soon went to the house of Challa Venkateswarlu and beat him resulting in the fracturing of his legs. The naxalites blasted the furniture and household articles in the house of Yaganti Venkateswarlu and with the help of soap bombs and small detonators.

The other group went to the houses of Arikatla Mangaiah and Nallabothula Anjaneyulu. However, both persons were not there. The naxalites stole Rs 20,000 in cash and one-and-a-half sovereigns of gold from the house of Nallabothula Anjaneyulu.
